How to prepare for a podcast interview

A practical checklist for turning your expertise into a clear, useful conversation.

Start with the listener. Write down one question your experience can help answer, then choose three useful ideas you want someone to remember. A specific promise makes a stronger pitch than a list of credentials.

Prepare examples rather than a memorized speech. For each key idea, bring a short story, the decision it illustrates, and a lesson the audience can apply. Separate personal experience from findings that need evidence, and keep source links ready for the host.

Check your recording setup before the session. Use a quiet room, wear headphones, test your microphone, silence notifications, and confirm your time zone and recording link. If you plan to mention a book or resource, send its correct title and official link in advance.

During the conversation, answer the question directly and leave space for follow-ups. Explain unfamiliar terms and avoid assuming listeners know your industry. Finish with one practical next step and a clear place to learn more.
