Your Episode Title Is an Invitation. Make It Worth Accepting.

Clear, specific titles help people understand the conversation before they commit their time.

Name the value, not just the recording

An episode number tells your production team where a file belongs. It rarely tells a new listener why the conversation matters. Lead with the subject, the useful question, or the perspective that makes this recording distinct. Keep the promise close enough to the actual discussion that someone can recognize it when they listen.

Use the words your audience uses

Imagine a listener describing their problem to a friend. Borrow that clarity. A title can be energetic without becoming vague, and specific without becoming a paragraph. Avoid squeezing every topic into one headline. Choose the strongest thread and let the description explain the supporting ideas.

Make names do useful work

A guest’s name is valuable when readers recognize it or the surrounding words explain why the guest belongs in this conversation. Pair identity with subject. Do not invent qualifications, achievements, or claims of authority to make a title feel larger than the evidence supports.

Check the title against the audio

Before publishing, ask a colleague to read only the title and predict what the episode covers. Compare that expectation with the recording. If they expect an answer you never give, revise the invitation. Honest packaging is part of the listening experience, rather than a cosmetic step after editing.
