Movie 101 Review in its Fourth season, featuring Thunderbolts

Episode description and notes

Thunderbolts is one of Marvel’s most anticipated ensemble films, bringing together a ragtag group of antiheroes, outcasts, and reformed villains who are forced to work under government command. Instead of polished superheroes with spotless reputations, this team is made up of morally gray characters—individuals with dark pasts, questionable motives, and fractured loyalties. The film promises a darker, grittier tone within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, balancing explosive action with complex character dynamics and uneasy alliances. At its core, Thunderbolts explores the theme of redemption—whether people defined by mistakes and villainy can truly rise above their flaws when the world needs them most. With its mix of intensity, humor, and raw humanity, the movie stands out as a bold shift from Marvel’s typical superhero narratives, positioning itself as a thrilling story about unlikely heroes who may not save the world the “right” way, but will stop at nothing to get the job done.
