Episode description and notes
When conflict arises between people who share a faith community, what is the wisest first step? In Matthew 18:15–17, Jesus offers guidance for addressing a situation directly, privately, and with the possibility of reconciliation in view. The passage describes a process that begins with a one-to-one conversation, then involves one or two others if the matter remains unresolved, and finally brings the issue before the wider community. In this first-season episode of Bible Verses 101 , we take a thoughtful look at what this passage says about truth, accountability, communication, and the work of restoring relationships. Why does Jesus begin with a private conversation? What does it mean to listen carefully and speak honestly? When might involving trusted others help move a conflict toward resolution? We also consider the care needed when interpreting and applying these verses. The passage calls for accountability, but it should not be used to shame, threaten, or silence someone who raises a concern. Responding with wisdom means taking the harm seriously, honoring appropriate boundaries, and seeking help when safety or serious misconduct is involved. Join us for a reflective conversation about approaching difficult disagreements with courage and humility, while keeping restoration and the dignity of every person in view. Matthew 18:15–17 challenges Christian communities to take conflict seriously, communicate truthfully, and pursue a response shaped by both justice and compassion. Learn more about your ad choices.
