Dustin Shepherd on Why Leadership Problems Are Often Trust Problems in Disguise
· 28 min 2 sec · Hosted by Daniel Lucas
Episode description and notes
Dustin Shepherd Most leadership problems aren't leadership problems. They're trust problems disguised as leadership problems. Dustin Shepherd is a retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major, executive leadership professor, award-winning scholar, and founder of Polaris Leadership Academy and Tranquility Ocean Adventures. After 29 years leading soldiers through complex operational environments and earning 2 Bronze Stars, Dustin transitioned into higher education, where he teaches leadership, studies human behavior, and explores how trust, perception, and decision-making shape individuals and organizations. Dustin was awarded both the 2026 National University COLPS Delphi Award and the 2026 National University COLPS Excellence in Scholarship Award for his leadership and for pioneering the use of artificial intelligence to enhance leadership environments. His work bridges the gap between leadership theory and lived experience. Drawing on combat deployments, executive leadership roles, academic research, and his work with trauma survivors and their families, Dustin helps audiences understand why many organizational problems are not, in fact, leadership problems. They are trust, communication, and perception problems disguised as leadership challenges. See https://pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
